  • Triathlon Tips for a Better Lifestyle...

    08-Jun-09 David Coulthard, Health and Fitness Manager for Harpers Fitness, reveals how adapting your fitness regime to a similar programme such as that used my triathlon trainees can really make a difference to your overall health, lifestyle and well being.

    “Training for something as challenging as a triathlon will lay the foundation of fitness for years to come and can help to ensure a healthy level of mobility later on in life” says David, “you’ll not only add years to your life but also improve the quality of those years!”

    “When you’re running, cycling or swimming for extended periods you have a great deal of time on your hands to think about whatever you choose and inadvertently, you’re teaching yourself how to read your body responses better and in turn learn to deal with physical and mental pressures in a healthier manner. A happy and healthy mind can only equate to a positive outcome on your overall well being.”

    David goes on to mention some of his favourite reasons to always train like you’re winning;
    1. Triathlon training torches a tremendous amount of calories, so be prepared to lose a significant amount of weight!
    2. Regular exercise can lower your blood pressure; prevent diabetes, heart disease and certain cancers, as well as reducing your risk of osteoporosis and depression. Result!
    3. Studies on exercise adherence show that many people quit their exercise routines because they hit a wall of boredom which can occur when you complete the same routine day in day out. By incorporating three different sports into your weekly exercise plan can help you to avoid an exercise burnout.
    4. The social side is phenomenal, whether you train for your triathlon alone or with others, you're sure to meet other triathletes along the way. You'll find that the camaraderie within the triathlon world is unmatched in any other sport; it’s like a brotherhood of sorts.
    5. If you complete just one triathlon, you will become one of the fitness elite no matter what time you finish in. You will have accomplished something that only one percent of the population even dare try. That puts you in more of an elite class than a Hollywood star.
    6. You will inspire others; whether your children watch their proud mum or dad cross the finish line or whether it is a friend you will have an unbelievable impact on their lives. When I completed my one and only triathlon one of my friends firmly believed that “if this Muppet can do it, then I certainly can”!

    Harpers Fitness always like to make sure their customers are ahead of the game when training for a great fitness achievement and are offering each of them a personalised training session for anyone considering signing up for a triathlon in their area!

    Harpers members can also opt into the Harpers Experience for a cost of only £20. For this they’ll receive five sessions with a personal trainer at five different stages within the first 8 weeks of their membership. The sessions include a 45 minute induction personal training session, full body health check, movement analysis, a second personal training session and also a follow up about how the member can maintain their programme and new lifestyle.
