Harpers Fitness has thrown its support behind the government’s announcement about free swimming in England. From the 1st April 2009, free swimming will be available to the over 60’s and in order to avoid the queues, Harpers is advising customers to register before the launch date at your local participating Centre.
Swimming can be the perfect addition to a healthy lifestyle and Harpers, the name of community, public access sport and leisure in the UK, believe that participation in the free swimming scheme will allow more people to lead a more active and healthy lifestyle.
Harpers, part of the Leisure Connection group, currently operate over 70 leisure centres across the UK and free swimming will be available at:
It is hoped that this will give people across the country the opportunity to visit their local leisure centre and therefore enjoy swimming and exercise as part of their everyday lifestyle.
Kate McKnight, Swimming Manager says: “The free swimming initiative is fantastic news and we hope that many of those people who take advantage of free swimming will become more confident and take up other sports and activities if they haven’t done so before. Our aim is to see more local people becoming more active, more often.”
“Partnership is the key to making government initiatives such as this a success for the people who really matter – the general public, many of whom are simply not exercising enough for their health.
By working together with our partners, the free swimming programme will be very successful and a great benefit to communities across the country.”
