Run to the beat and feel great with Harpers Fitness
15-Apr-09

Everyone has their favourite album to listen to when they’re working out; some pound it out on the treadmill to Kings of Leon while others swing to Pet Shop Boys on the cross trainer, Ethiopian marathon runner Haile Gebrselassie famously set a world record running to Scatman! The right tunes can really help you give your cardio workout everything you’ve got.
Harpers Fitness want their members to be getting the best from their workouts and incorporating music can boost your performance by as much as 20%*! The trick is, music lowers your perception of effort and tricks your mind into thinking it’s less tired than it actually is! Musical rhythms also emulate the pattern of some physical skills which can help to enhance your technique making you a more efficient athlete.
“Each of our members are individuals here and each will have their optimum workout playlist; they’re not prescriptive. Songs that inspire you and make you smile are the best. I’ve been getting the best from my personal workouts listening to a mixture of pop and eighties rock, although I can’t get enough of Beyonce’s ‘Crazy in Love’ at the moment.”
“MP3 players are a staple for most of our members and we can’t recommend them enough to get the most from your session in the gym. We run a variety of music, ranging from hip hop to house to pop in our centers. Depending on the time of day, our members can also select what music they want to hear over the airways. We recommend a personal playlist for those on treadmills, bikes and cross trainers, while uplifting background music helps you get inspired in the weight room.”
Harpers members are keen to get involved and keep interactive with their local gym and will soon be able to vote for their favourite tracks online at www.harpersfitness.co.uk. Each week a top ten list will be complied and played during peak times for a high performance and successful work out for everyone there.
