Back to school fitness
19-Oct-09
The new school year marks the end of summer and as the kids return to school, many adults decide to dust down their own PE kits in a bid to get into shape.
Like the thousands of youngsters now getting to grips with new timetables, many parents will be finding solace in establishing a new routine of their own.
During September and October we see an increase in new members. It seems to be a time when people take stock and look to focus on their health and well-being.” Setting a goal should be the starting point for anybody taking up or returning to exercise, according to Kevin Yates, National Health and Fitness manager for Harpers Fitness.
Weight loss, a more toned physique and increased strength are the most motivating factors when returning to exercise and more and more parents are citing the fact they want to be able to keep up with their children as a reason to get fit. There are plenty of group training classes across all our Harpers Fitness centres and these are a great way to meet new friends and other like-minded people. Why not come and enjoy a family swim with the kids and enjoy exercise as part of a fun family activity. This will also ensure positive connotations with your children and exercise.
Active kids are happy kids. Children like to be up and about, running around and having fun. Kids need to do at least 60 minutes of physical activity everyday, which gets their heart beating faster than usual.
Even at school they are sitting for much of the day, so getting the right amount of after school activity is important. And don’t forget their 60 active minutes at the weekend too!
