Family days out for free

As we all try and tighten our belts (in more ways than one) Harpers Fitness has pulled together our favourite family days out for you to enjoy and what’s even better – they are free!

The Hub National Centre for Craft & Design, Sleaford
Based in a re-modelled seed warehouse in Sleaford, Lincolnshire the Hub is a rich resource and a great day out for those with an interest in the arts, craft and design. The Main Gallery shows large scale exhibitions that change every couple of months. It features a high quality cinema screen and projector. The Roof Gallery leads to balconies with fantastic views that look across the town. The Education studio, Studio 4, is heavily used by a wide range of groups, including short course workshops and schools.

Museum of Childhood, London
The Museum of Childhood has the UK’s biggest collection of toys and childhood paraphernalia. A great day out, you and your family can explore the history of childhood from the 16th century to modern day. The museum houses a world famous collection of dolls and dolls’ houses, games, puppets and toys as well as exciting new interactive areas.

Roskilly’s of Cornwall
A firm favourite that promises to impress the whole family. Roskilly’s is famous for its delicious organic ice cream, which comes in 24 mouth-watering flavours. And there’s also yummy fudge and tasty Cornish pasties all of which you can watch being made. Children will love meeting the calves and donkeys, watching the cows being milked, and feeding the ducks and spotting giant rhubarb by the beautiful ponds.

Sherwood Forest, Nottingham
Take your family to Sherwood Forest where you can explore the home of Robin Hood. There’s plenty to see and do here, so whether you’re an action lover, nature lover or history lover, there promises to be something for you. Follow in Robin’s footsteps with the Robin Hood Way walking path, go cycling, horse riding, play golf or just relax and explore your surroundings.

National Railway Museum, York The National Railway Museum is the largest railway museum in the world, and is home to an unrivalled collection of locomotives, rolling stock, railway equipment, documents and records. Here you’ll find over 300 years of world railway history, from Japanese Bullet trains to Queen Victoria’s favourite carriage. Don’t miss the Yorkshire Wheel, which offers spectacular views of York’s city centre.
