June WardFitness has always been important and twenty years ago I joined the KFA. I enjoyed it so much I decided to take fitness up as a career. Starting out as an aerobics instructor I then began to gain qualifications needed to further my career in fitness.

After 15 years working as an aerobics instructor I began working as a fitness consultant at Harpers in 2003, after a year I became Harpers Manager, in this role I have helped many members of the centre achieve their personal goals. I am now in the new position of Health & Fitness Manager and personal trainer and intend to carry on training and motivating people to a high standard of fitness.
As well as gardening, reading and theatre my fitness hobbies are; Cycling. At the age of 40 I purchased my first mountain bike which enabled me to complete the Coast to Coast cycle ride which is approx 160 miles, which I completed with members of the centre in 2 days. Fell Walking. I have completed the Cheviot Challenge which involves walking 26 miles at climbs of 5,000 feet, which I completed in just under 8 hours Running. I have completed the Great North Run on several occasions in less than two hours. To relax and unwind I like to do Yoga.

Ever since I was a young child I have been interested in sport and fitness is very important to me. When I was in school I played for 3 football teams as well as representing the school for running and the long jump. In my final 2 years of school I studied GCSE P.E in which I achieved an A grade for my hard work and dedication to the subject. I now feel that I use my knowledge combined with my personal interests to help others achieve high standards of
fitness and promote a healthy lifestyle.

First Aid at Work
During my final year at school I did my work experience here at Harpers at Seaham Leisure Centre, it was then I realised that I wanted to become a fitness instructor. Since then I have worked for Harpers as a part time fitness consultant. I have a lot of experience in all aspects fitness now, however I feel that my main experience is in the weight / resistance area as I do this myself on a regular basis. Over the last 3 years I have gathered a vast amount of knowledge in this field of training which I have used it to help a lot of members achieve there personal goals and I feel I will continue to do so to a very high standard.
As you have probably realised my main hobby is weight training, however I like to combine this with outdoor running. I have taken part in the local yearly pier to pier run several times and am currently training for next years. I enjoy any physical activity ranging from swimming to rock climbing. In my spare I have completed my silver Duke of Edinburgh; recently I have followed on with the residential and expedition aspects of the gold award. I like to think I am a friendly approachable person, so if you would like my help and advice please don’t be afraid to ask.
