Experience

I have worked in various aspects of the fitness and leisure industry since 2004. I qualified in fitness in order to develop my knowledge and understanding within the gym environment. Prior to joining the Harpers team I spent the last year working in an all female gym. I coached a variety of ladies and together we achieved fantastic results with weight loss, mobility, body shaping, pre-surgery goals and with personal journeys building self esteem and confidence.

Hobbies:

I enjoy spending time with my family and catching up with friends. I love giving new things a try, the latest being Powerbocking. (AWESOME FUN) My next goal is to do a Sky dive. I must confess to being a “serial learner” I have studied a range of subjects from child care to fitness, psychology to computers.

Andy Holmes

Personal Trainer
About me:

I am a new member to the fitness team and I am very much looking forward to the challenges
ahead. I am married to Debbie and have one son, Conor. I am very passionate about fitness and its place in our lifestyles. I really enjoy one to one fitness, setting goals for clients, watching them improve and achieve their goals through the fitness partnership, guiding and advising where required as well as offering support when necessary on the journey to their fitness aspirations. Despite my military background I have a relaxed, approachable manner. Rugby is another of my passions and I am particularly interested in the strength and conditioning side of rugby fitness and the strategies and thinking around functional movement and movement patterns, plenty of which are transferable to the gym environment.

Qualifications:

Level 2 Fitness instructor working towards level 3.
Circuit training.
Core/Torso training.
SAQ Trainer.
RFU level 2 Rugby Coach.
Entry level referee.
First aid trained.
CRB checked.

Experience:

I joined the Army at 17 and spent the next 22 years seeing the world and having fun through sport and outdoor pursuits. I have run full and half marathons, thrown myself out of aeroplanes and off mountains, white water rafted and trekked across many military training areas carrying a house on my back; I have played a lot of sport and had a lot of fun. I saw active service in Northern Ireland and Bosnia and spent some cold winters in Norway artic warfare training. After military service I spent a number of successful years working with oil giant BP. A recent career opportunity has allowed me to get back into fitness something I really enjoy. Since leaving the Army I have continued to play rugby and got into coaching youngsters 5 years ago, something I really enjoy.

Hobbies:

My primary passion is rugby and rugby fitness, I enjoy rowing and cycling, mountain biking and hill
walking with my son and friends mainly around Snowdonia and the Peak District. I am reading anything I can get my hands on at the moment around fitness and conditioning and I admit to being a bit of an environmentalist looking at Green issues and their effect on our lifestyles and our future.
