Andy ScraggsAfter graduating from Staffordshire University in 2004 I embarked on a complete lifestyle change. Although my degree was Sports Studies the majority of my work was desk based and coupled
with the fact my diet consisted primarily of fast foods and takeaways my fitness levels were on the floor and my weight was through the roof! Through a combination of exercise and a sensible diet I lost 3 stone and achieved an acceptable level of fitness. I was genuinely excited about my own results and the prospect of helping others to achieve their own lifestyle goals convinced me to pursue a career in the health and fitness industry. I qualified as a Personal Trainer and Sports Massage Therapist the following year and have never looked back.

I began my time at Harpers in 2005 and have worked with a variety of different clients including National Hockey and Judo players, Ironmen, Tri-athletes, marathon runners, stage performers, right
through to first time gym users! Although the needs of each individual client vary greatly, I adapt my approach to achieve the maximum results for that person.
I enjoy playing sports including badminton, football and squash. I also do my weight training in the gym 4-6 x week as well as running outside 3-5 x week.
Sarah McLaganI have been training and motivating people to exercise for many years. I keep myself fit by running, playing tennis, swimming and working out in the gym. I love to watch any sport too – but especially my twin boys playing rugby and tennis. The thing I enjoy about Personal Training is that I can give people the necessary support and encouragement to reach their own individual goals. Each training programme I devise is unique to the client, developed with them, for them, to help them to achieve their aims, whether that be to lose weight, increase their level of fitness, recover from an injury or even run a marathon! What it important to me is the Personal element as I believe this increases the success and effectiveness of the training.
I have the following qualifications (Level 3):
Advanced Personal Training Instructor
Nutritional Advisor
Sports Massage Therapist
I have worked in the Leisure industry my entire working career in a variety of roles including as a sports development officer, a leisure centre manager and a local government leisure officer. Since May 2007 I have worked as a Personal Trainer and Sports Masseuse at Harpers at Great Dunmow Leisure Centre. I have worked with a whole range of clients – male and female, young and old, fit and unfit, all shapes and sizes – and been successful in assisting them to reach their goals and making them feel better about themselves.
My life revolves around my family and my passion for all types of sport and fitness. I love taking part in sporting activities, both competitively and for pleasure and seeing others get the same pleasure.
Tom CornellI first got into fitness at the age of 6 when I took up martial arts. By the age of 14 I was the club’s first junior black belt, I later went on to teach alongside my Shotokan instructor training the junior class.
I enjoy all different aspects of fitness, and continuously improve and adapt new methods. Training in the gym has
given me a lot more confidence and motivation in life, so knowing that I can make this difference to help other people achieve their own specific goals gives me 100% job satisfaction! I am friendly and approachable so if you need a hand or fancy changing up your programme or chat about a class, just give me a shout!
